In my earlier post, I told you about the sale ending today at Whole Foods on boneless beef sirloin steaks. The butcher today was very nice when I asked him where I could find the steak. He told me he was cutting them right now and to come over to the glass (the cutting room is glass enclosed) and select the steak I wanted. I told him it was just for two people. He sliced a nice portion of beef that was perfect for two people. As we don't eat steak that often, I wanted to make it a little special, so I search the web for a recipe for bordelaise sauce. I found one at the Saveur website. The recipe calls for beef demi-glace, which you can purchase at Williams-Sonoma. I happened to have some on hand. I also had some mushrooms in the refrigerator, so I sliced and sauteed them. After they were nicely cooked and had some color, I added them to the sauce.
To round out tonight's meal I had red skinned potatoes and fresh broccoli. Dinner was on the porch this evening as the sun was setting and the sky was beginning to get dark. I must say, the steak was excellent, very tender and cooked rare to medium. A homemade chocolate chip cookie to the end meal was all we needed. Now, it's time to clean the kitchen and time for my husband and our Brittney spaniel to take a walk. Index
