Thursday was such a beautiful day, that my husband and I decided to go to Asbury Park for dinner and returned to Flavia’s Cucina Romana. We were here during the summer and enjoyed it immensely. We started our dinner with their light and crunchy Carciofi Fritti and served with a lemon vinaigrette. I overheard the owner say to another table that he created this dish and used rice flour for the coating. They are the best fried artichokes we’ve had. For entrees, my husband chose Spaghetti Carbonara with guanciale, egg, black pepper and Pecorino Romano cheese. I chose their signature dish, potato gnocchi, dressed with a Gorgonzola cream sauce and toasted walnuts. My husband practically licked his plate clean. It was flavorsome. My gnocchi was heavenly, so light. The cream sauce was luscious, a hint of sharpness and the walnuts adding texture and crunch; so good.
Flavia’s is one of few restaurants that offer a bread basket for the table. I don’t know where they purchase their bread, but it too was delicious. It had a nice crust and chew. They serve it with a peppery olive oil, which complements the bread. If you’re ever in the Asbury Park area, I recommend that you try Flavia’s Cucina. Index
