hot time in manhattan

It's Restaurant Week in New York! My husband and I had today off, so we took a one day vacation to Manhattan. I made reservations for lunch at Park Avenue Summer, however, before lunch we took a subway ride up to the Frick Collection.

The Frick Collection is a small museum, originally it was the home of Henry Clay Frick. The museum is on East 70th Street, just off of Fifth Avenue. It was a magnificent home, I especially like the interior garden room.
Following the museum we set off for Park Avenue Summer. I’ve been there twice before, once last summer with my daughter when we were wedding gown shopping and last fall with my husband for brunch. The restaurant changes both their decor and menu seasonally.

Today we went for the Restaurant Week lunch menu. I started off with the Stone Fruit Sangria and my husband had an Arnold Palmer, with a shot of bourbon. Our appetizers were strawberry gazpacho watermelon, tomato and fresh goat cheese and I had local burrata peach salsa verde and basil panzanella. For a main course I had grilled bavette (hanger steak) tomatillo romesco, which had some kick to it and my husband had Scottish salmon cucumber, avocado and dill. Both were excellent! To complete our lunch we had peach basil sorbet honey poached peaches and summer berry and passion fruit tart. Both desserts had seasonal fruit at the peak of ripeness.

After lunch we walked through Madison Square Park to Eataly. There is an art installation in the park called Big Bling. At Eataly I picked up just a few things such as gianduja chocolates, honey with Amaretto and almonds and ravioli with spring peas. If it was cooler, I would have like to get some mozzarell or burrata.

Restaurant Week runs through August 19th. To view the complete restaurant list go to www.nycgo.com to see which restaurants have the special lunch and dinner menu.
