It's been a busy week so far and it's only Tuesday. I have driven to north Jersey the past two days and I'm tired. However, today I met my siblings to finalize some matters and then we grabbed some lunch at Red Kettle Deli in Totowa. My sister and brother had an eggplant Parmesan sandwich, my brother-in-law had a meatball sub and I had a turkey on white bread. Good food. However, what made the day special was a trip to Gelotti on Union Avenue in Paterson Although I digress from my main topic, I wanted to share with you this fabulous gelato store. They make delicious, tasty and ever so smooth gelato. I had Tiramisu flavored gelato, my brother chocolate, my brother-in-law had root beer Italian ice and my sister had vanilla ice cream mixed with caramel and pretzels. Oh my gosh, it was heaven! They have a nice selection of flavors from which to choose from.
However, there is still supper to be made. I went to Whole Foods to pick up some bone-in chicken breasts for which I had a rain check. The chicken was on sale last week for $2.49/lb., however, by the time I got there they were out. So today I picked up a package of that, but noticed that they had Italian flavored chicken sausage on sale for $3.99/lb. I selected sweet sausage. Further inspiration came to me when I saw that they had California red or yellow field peppers on sale for $1.49/lb. The yellow peppers seemed a bit soft, but I found two I liked. Supper decided, chicken sausage and peppers. I also purchased their baguette artisan bread loaf for $2.50 to go along with the meal. I used my Le Creuset pan and sauteed some diced onions and sliced peppers seasoned with salt and pepper in some EVOO. I added my sausages and browned on all sides. I covered the pan and let the meat cook until it registered 160 degrees on my meat thermometer. I prefer my sausage and peppers with red sauce, however, I'm on a special diet for a few days so I left that out. Also, I must compliment Whole Foods, the Italian flavored chicken sausage was delicious. They seasonings were spot on, it tasted just like pork sausage. This is the second loaf of bread I purchased form Whole Foods and it too had a nice chewy crust. Whole Foods store brand butter, Organic 365 Everyday Value butter, is also on sale this week 2 for $5.00, which is an excellent price. Index
