Pastosa Ravioli of Brooklyn, New York has found a new home at The Orchards at Wall Shopping Plaza, 2410 Highway 35, Manasquan. Their grand opening was Friday morning at 8:30, however, since the rains came through, I waited until about 10 am to make my trip. The store doesn’t seem as large as the Cranford location, but it does pack a lot into the space. Pastosa has a selection of ready to go entrees and salads such as broccoli rabe ($9.99/lb.) and cheese and beef lasagna ($7.99/lb.) to name a few. The meat case was filled with assorted varieties of pork and chicken sausage, boneless pork chops and steak. I purchased pork sausage with fennel ($6.49/lb.) for sausage and peppers lunch for my daughter and son-in-law. On the west side of the store, there’s a case containing a variety of ground meats (beef, pork veal combination), steaks, and boneless chicken cutlets. They also have a large selection of pasta sauces ready to be paired fresh pasta or ravioli. You want cheese, they have it pre-grated or by the piece. Pastosa also carries their own label of dried pasta and canned tomatoes. If you like salted capers, Pastosa has those too for $2.49 for 2 ounces. The fresh mozzarella was still warm when I picked it up this morning. The mozzarella was $8.99/lb., which is a good price for a high quality product.
The guys behind the counter today couldn’t have been more welcoming and eager to help with anything you needed. The guys are local, one is from Jackson and another from Freehold, and so they are familiar with the area. Behind the checkout is Italian bread from bakeries in Brooklyn (chewy crust) and Staten Island. As I have been posting comments on their social media sites; the young woman who handles their social media recognized me and asked if I was Donna. Unfortunately, I didn’t get her name but I was impressed with the friendliness of the staff. I also came away with a complimentary bag of fresh cavatelli, a bounce back coupon for a free bag of Pastosa dried pasta and a few bottle openers/magnets. Pastosa will become one of my weekly stops for my fresh meats, pasta and cheeses. Welcome to the area Pastosa, may you have much such success. Index
